Accidents happen. And now I know why they made Bob Ross so happy. But first, a little backstory about this design…
Maple View Equestrian is nestled on the grounds of an awe-inspiring 1800’s Ohio estate, where history whispers through the leaves of majestic mature maples. This farm is more than just a riding facility, it is a sanctuary of generational dreams. They even make their own syrup! My goal with this logo was to blend the rich tradition of the past with the aspirations of the future.
Developing riders with proper form over fences is one of the keys to success of Maple View’s lesson program and show team. Therefore, the rider’s equitation was paramount in this design. This logo utilizes finer lines which allowed me to capture greater levels of detail, and the rider was drawn using a combination of line art and negative space.
When I work with fine lines, I also work to build in added flexibility so whenever embroidery is needed in a small space (like an ear bonnet or ball-cap), our clients can use the font, art, or even pull out a single ‘element’ of their logo to stand alone and carry through their branding without limiting the full design.
While I was on the phone with ShayAnn sending her screenshots of different ways it could be used in a variety of use scenarios, she hit me with a question I wasn’t expecting…
“How do you envision laying it out as an ultra wide banner if I sponsor a horse show?”
This design really wasn’t meant to be ‘ultra wide’.
While still on the phone with her, I extended the width of my artboard, began moving things around just to ‘see what would happen’ and viola!
Oddly enough, and to my complete surprise and utter disbelief, the font on this logo when placed on either side of the leaf matched the curvature of the leaf perfectly.
Seriously y’all, this was BIZARRE!!!
While I wish I could take credit for being that brilliant of a designer, this was a total accident!
She loves this version so much, it may end up being used even more than the original.
I’m sure everyone thinks their logo is the best, and that’s exactly how we feel. Jackie really took the time to speak with us on several occasions trying to figure out what and who we were as a business. (And that wasn’t easy) She was very understanding as we seemed to not quite know the direction we wanting to go in. Then when she came up with the brilliant design, she was able to tweak it down to the smallest details to make it very personal to us. (And that was no easy task) We want to thank them so much for truly putting the icing on the cake for our growing and expanding business. With this logo, I really feel like the sky is the limit to what products we can create to promote our business.
