Northman Forge Works & Farrier Services Logo

May 12, 2023

Horses have long played an integral role in both the lives of the Vikings and Norse people, as well as in their mythology. From the Norse god Odin’s magnificent eight-legged steed, Sleipnir, to the hardy, courageous Viking war horses, you’ll find equine influences throughout Norway’s history. The inspiration behind Northman Forge Works and Farrier Service’s name was the owner, Caleb’s, Nordic heritage. A Nordic logo design was the natural choice when Caleb decided to refresh his farrier business branding with a unique custom logo. Our artists created a Norse Mythology logo design for the Tyler, Texas business in a circular style. In Nordic art, circles represent perfection and balance-both important elements of farrier work.

The silhouette of a bold Viking war horse is encircled by runic inscriptions in a tribute to Caleb’s homeland that embodies true Nordic style. A bold hand lettered sans serif font showcases the business name while continuing to foster the Nordic aesthetic throughout the original design. This masculine Norse mythology inspired logo will make the perfect addition to Caleb’s business cards, t-shirts, and work truck.

Norse Mythology Logo for Texas Farrier With Nordic Roots

Caleb, owner of Northman Forge Works and Farrier Service, lives in Tyler, Texas but his roots are across the sea in Norway. Although he works with companion, pleasure, and competition horses in Texas, Norwegian farriers and blacksmiths were an important part of their communities as far back as the 900’s. Around this time, the horseshoe made its way to the region and became an important tool in keeping Scandinavian work horses’ sound.

The rough, rocky Norwegian terrain often required those using horses for work to bring multiple horses during lengthy travel so that they could be rotated in an effort to protect them from hoof strain. The introduction of the horseshoe eliminated this need and made it easier for horses to perform their jobs at long stretches of time. Archeologists in Norway have even found equine “snowshoes” as the glacial ice slowly melts away.

World Class, Hand Drawn Norse Mythology Logo Design for Norwegian Farrier Living in Texas

You may be looking for inspiration for a Nordic logo design. Before embarking on the design process for a Norse mythology logo, it’s helpful to know a little bit about the different styles of art in the Viking age. Norse craftsmen rendered their art on wood in many cases, but metal and stone were also popular mediums. Animal imagery was very common among all of the Nordic art styles.

The earliest Norse art style was the Oseberg style. This style, which combined animal motifs and geometric shapes, is often found on wood objects and longships. Next came the Borre style. If your ideas for a Norse mythology logo are very ornamental and decorative, you might find this interlacing style appealing.

The Jellinge style followed the era of the Borre style. Animals and humans are seen in a much simpler form in this style, and backgrounds are more visible.

Another Norse art style that might influence your Nordic logo design is the Mammen style. This intricate, swirling style was named after a ceremonial axe called the Mammen axe. The Ringerike Style may be of particular interest to someone gathering ideas for a Norse mythology logo. This style often contains bird motifs and images of the Norse mythological creature the Great Beast.

If you prefer a more elegant Nordic logo design, you might look to the Urnes style for inspiration. This intricate interlacing style still contains images of the Great Beast and various animals, portrayed in a rather regal style.

Fully Custom, Unique Norse Mythology Logo Design for Farrier and Blacksmith

Caleb’s Texas farrier business is called “Northman” to reference his family roots in Norway. Our artists wanted to create a custom Norse mythology logo design for Caleb that would be compact and masculine. We created a circular Viking war horse design in both vector and silhouette styles. Besides maintaining a compact design that can be used with or without the company name, the significance of a circle in Nordic logo design is that it represents balance and perfection-both qualities farriers strive for in their business.

We added runic inscriptions along the outside edge of the icon style Norse mythology logo, and included the business name in a hand lettered sans serif font that calls attention to the “Northman” brand name with an underscore. The masculine lettering furthers the Viking aesthetic of this Nordic logo design, and copper foil adds professionalism and an air of craftsmanship to this unique Norse mythology logo. This vector style custom logo is one of a kind and will be easily recognized among the equestrian community in Tyler, Texas. Caleb’s business cards, t-shirts, truck decals, and more will receive a refreshed visual branding identity when this world class logo is placed on them.
