The Zia (sun) is a beloved Native American symbol that has been used for centuries to represent the interconnectedness of the four seasons, directions, times of day, and stages of life. It symbolizes balance, harmony and unity of all living beings; values shared by both the Southwestern culture and the dressage world.
The moment Gina asked me to infuse Southwestern art and culture into her dressage logo, all cylinders started firing and I could envision creating this wildly colorful, Kokopelli inspired, Native American patterned horse while on our call.
I really wanted this logo to give the impression of a continuous ‘full circle’ between the horse and the Zia symbol to evoke a sense of oneness since the values so closely coincide. I also wanted to lean into the Southwestern art traditions and create a more abstract and stylized horse that would still evoke a ‘hint’ of FEI Warmblood into the art.

The owners of this stunning southwestern horse logo originated from New Mexico, and Zia Equestrian is now located in Aiken, SC.
